First Shift In Haiti

I heard from Lyndsay! I've copied and pasted her email below. She sounded in great spirits, though tired. In the email below she refers to the "Ecola group". A Bible school that we are close friends with (Ecola Bible School) is on a short-term missions trip to the same ministry as Lyndsay (although not at the clinic, obviously). Ecola also happens to do a missions trip to Tijuana every year - and they are here with us this week at Baja! Interesting how that works out. We'll be working hard tomorrow building some retaining walls on campus and finishing a lot of projects that have been a long time coming!
I think our Baja students (who all chose to stay here for spring break) will enjoy being the Mexico/Spanish/Missions experts as they lead Ecola students in their work here.
Good day in inpatient/outpatient hospital. I helped with walk-in's today and got to know some of our inpatients. Each has a story. Most have a sad one. Rosemond a 10 year old with a severe foot injury, multiple fractures in his hand, and many more scars on his face and body has the sweetest spirit. Today he was sad, though. He was probably thinking about his parents, both of whom were killed in the quake. It's always sad when kids are injured or sick. But to couple that with the loss of both parents is unimaginable. His grandma was at his side and he received lots of love and attention from the nurses, particularly Mary, an RN from Minnesota.

Another patient is a very young mother. She had an "open book" pelvic fracture (which is REALLY bad under normal circumstances. Both legs were broken, one was crushed and had to be amputated. AND she was pregnant!!!! They took the baby C-section (I think). BOTH of them are doing very well and the mom was in good spirits today :).

As we were mid- shift change in the middle of report- by flashlight (problems with the generator throughout the day)... a lady came to the gate...in labor! Fortunately one of the long term missionaries here is a midwife! She took the lady to the women's clinic... and those of us who had been there all day headed home for dinner. There are so many people, so many stories here. We did a number of dressing changes today - it really impacted me the number of people that (obviously) had things fall on them.

There was a nice devotion tonight in Ephesians 2:8-11 i think. The Ecola group is working REALLY hard - most of it is pretty dirty, tedious, heavy work. They have great attitudes (and way more energy than a 32 year old :))
